A railroad line is sabotaged by agents of an unscrupulous businessman who plans to scoop up the imperiled company’s devalued stock in order to gain control of … well, a railroad with serious reputation problems, to say the least. Superman puts an end to the plot and lends a hand to rescue trapped survivors of one of the crashes.


One of Siegel’s strengths as a writer was the sense of genuine peril he imparted to the catastrophes faced by the assorted innocent bystanders in his stories. Villains and fiends brought cities down around the ears of the everyday passers-by, and Siegel was adept at portraying that without derailing the story with sensationalism and gore. Victims were, after all, there to be saved by Superman or, in the saddest possible circumstances, motivate him to seek justice on their behalf, so they were vitally important to the mechanism of his stories …
